Learn about getting help paying for school. Direct Subsidized Loans are made to eligible undergraduate students based on financial need.

Direct Unsubsidized Loans are made to eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and are not based on financial need.

Direct PLUS Loans are made to graduate or professional students and parents of dependent undergraduate students.

Direct Consolidation Loans allow you to combine all of your eligible federal student loans into a single loan with a single loan servicer.

Even if you're not eligible for federal aid, you might be eligible for financial aid from your state. Contact your state grant agency for more information.

When you submit your FAFSA, you may be eligible to receive the following types of funding:

Grants - Federal grants are awarded to students with financial need.

Loans - A loan is money you borrow and must pay back with interest. Federal student loans offer better interest rates than private bank loans.

Work-study - A federal student aid program that provides part-time employment to help pay for education expenses
